No knowledge comes from outside; it is all inside. What we say a man 'knows', should, in strict psychological language, be what he 'discovers' or 'unveils'; what man 'learns' is really what he discovers by taking the cover off his own soul, which is a mine of infinite knowledge.

The world today is, will not be the same tomorrow. An act what we do at this moment, cannot be done in the same way, same time, and same manner. An aircraft scheduled to depart from the airport now, may not be the same tomorrow. So, it is the "<span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 102, 0);">change</span>" every where. What we are now, may not be the same after a minute. Thus change is everywhere and it is proportional to time and space. It is only this "<span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(204, 51, 204); font-style: italic;">change</span>" which made many people successful, many industries strong and growing, many manufacturers accomplish their deadlines and etc. It is also the same "Change", which made people to suffer and face hardships. So it is "change" which takes control of our life and lead us forward. It entirely depends on for what we "change" and how we "Change." But to move forward in life, we have to travel along with the "<span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">Change</span>."<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYYROK7Yo97Ek0r-NB3rX0GlTvFjBOPc-kmRTu5w4EYvixugoVzaxelGlW40b_H4F8E3Q-ZAYyvIOQE68dF0HOSowotAAxknHe7hsRgbVAo_rUNAM9j0wPNLNtgraK-Qq0lNRAFmYE1VJI/s1600-h/Fiat+Premier+Padmini.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 230px; height: 165px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYYROK7Yo97Ek0r-NB3rX0GlTvFjBOPc-kmRTu5w4EYvixugoVzaxelGlW40b_H4F8E3Q-ZAYyvIOQE68dF0HOSowotAAxknHe7hsRgbVAo_rUNAM9j0wPNLNtgraK-Qq0lNRAFmYE1VJI/s400/Fiat+Premier+Padmini.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5370523404158919602" border="0" /></a>In India, few decades ago, there was a great success with the launch of a new design, which revolutionized the automobile industry, a car, named "Fiat-Premier Padmini." The design won the hearts of many people with its robust construction and excellent mileage. Numerous people bought this particular car and it was also a symbol of status. The sales went very high and the company was on top gear. After some fruitful years, the car and thus the company, whose fame was fluttering high in air, suddenly crashed. People started selling their cars and the corporates of the Fiat company cannot understand the reason for that. The entire company crashed. The Kingdom of Fiat was captured by a new company called "Maruthi." People started to sell Fiat and buy Maruthi's ever famous design "Maruthi-800." Fiat corporates started to analyze the reason for their downfall. They found the reason as "Change."<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj067qfCFJf2k14JimJgy1lwns1wEJ14nkFiioWYebd_-_gHE7INIyOcdKIk9SWJOD8p6nJ3OOYUWUEm2TqRVAjqNmLqk38Jk5ZgHOiIVO8hdnTIF2UHgqTXYTkW1vp0FoQMFa0oXzzC_A3/s1600-h/Maruthi-800.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 267px; height: 146px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj067qfCFJf2k14JimJgy1lwns1wEJ14nkFiioWYebd_-_gHE7INIyOcdKIk9SWJOD8p6nJ3OOYUWUEm2TqRVAjqNmLqk38Jk5ZgHOiIVO8hdnTIF2UHgqTXYTkW1vp0FoQMFa0oXzzC_A3/s400/Maruthi-800.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5370523957538054770" border="0" /></a>Wondering how? Fiat designers and engineers claimed that there was no need for further enhancement of design. Their line of thinking was that people liked the design and almost everybody was crazy on Fiat. This was the main reason and caused their downfall. As "Maruthi" came into the market with a new design, suddenly people found that "Maruthi-800" was more attractive than everything else. Thus it is evident that "<span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">change</span>" is required and it will be always with the change where everyone can easily achieve success.sriram balasubramanianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09220738251583694388noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8752163785207166985.post-34261306822674271032009-07-29T11:52:00.001+05:302009-07-29T11:55:20.214+05:30Lets Play Chess...!!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkeFwY91sf_gBPaK91JWZuQXQcyv2h2XJC14qUHOlSdVWrMRw4ltDBJgxN1HDqRnCo7BdEhLhzX1gVTAEy2LlU_-uU58HH1hyphenhyphenNLnbL2YXGLeJnWqPrxSyPECIwgtyFG6exLUA7EDVw3dUu/s1600-h/chess.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 573px; height: 421px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkeFwY91sf_gBPaK91JWZuQXQcyv2h2XJC14qUHOlSdVWrMRw4ltDBJgxN1HDqRnCo7BdEhLhzX1gVTAEy2LlU_-uU58HH1hyphenhyphenNLnbL2YXGLeJnWqPrxSyPECIwgtyFG6exLUA7EDVw3dUu/s400/chess.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363763962969944258" border="0" /></a><br /><br />A Game you would Love to Play..!!!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkeFwY91sf_gBPaK91JWZuQXQcyv2h2XJC14qUHOlSdVWrMRw4ltDBJgxN1HDqRnCo7BdEhLhzX1gVTAEy2LlU_-uU58HH1hyphenhyphenNLnbL2YXGLeJnWqPrxSyPECIwgtyFG6exLUA7EDVw3dUu/s1600-h/chess.JPG"><span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"></span></a>sriram balasubramanianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09220738251583694388noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8752163785207166985.post-68914456071173595012009-07-21T17:34:00.019+05:302009-07-21T20:09:53.095+05:30Play A Different Game..!!I have numerous thoughts running through my mind. I feel that this will be a best way to record the frequent blossoming of ideas in my mind..<br /><br /><span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);font-size:130%;" ><span style="font-weight: bold;">The way I lived life <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">and</span> <span style="color: rgb(0, 102, 0);">The way to live:</span></span></span><br /><br />I was with full of unnecessary positive energy, aiming at stupid stuffs.. setting unnecessary targets, full of selfish and jealous thoughts.<br /><br />We all know that "Life is Game to be Played".<br />but it has to be understood "what game it is and how to play it".<br />Every book says "Life is a game" and ask us " to play as it comes"..It sometimes motivates to "Play it Big"..<br />all those stuffs are correct. I was playing a game as advised by others. Those <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4kzVq5gAbQ5G39185tsO8gbalx5BjNxhNStqRT3-TbcOTa2L977myT3Sy7u22Y1YK2KFnshawDXMjIoPCAmosVFs-4X0dOUul4CAZVsrdDYkVme0ITR0VdnOMA23WeSPnjghvhYDG6ZbI/s1600-h/football.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 125px; height: 79px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4kzVq5gAbQ5G39185tsO8gbalx5BjNxhNStqRT3-TbcOTa2L977myT3Sy7u22Y1YK2KFnshawDXMjIoPCAmosVFs-4X0dOUul4CAZVsrdDYkVme0ITR0VdnOMA23WeSPnjghvhYDG6ZbI/s400/football.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5360922136783642226" border="0" /></a>advisers left me unclear. So, thinking whatever I know is all that to be known, I played my game.<br /><br />I played a game similar to "cricket, football, rugby, etc.."...All these games require high energy levels and stamina. They keep us fit and healthy. The <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg084FJDEDsmf7Y2Ez9qlhroMnBHtfjCGR0t6zFgpKshHFPFD6d7x5c3NyK69d_7c8DdV3xQ1KKt1ol0Xg5DDz025qdhw3dPBGfeK9U3dpPlXQNSSmZuFRBHgmK0QrqloXg8KqortSrRl6s/s1600-h/swimming.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 105px; height: 170px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg084FJDEDsmf7Y2Ez9qlhroMnBHtfjCGR0t6zFgpKshHFPFD6d7x5c3NyK69d_7c8DdV3xQ1KKt1ol0Xg5DDz025qdhw3dPBGfeK9U3dpPlXQNSSmZuFRBHgmK0QrqloXg8KqortSrRl6s/s400/swimming.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5360921420150752466" border="0" /></a>spectators keep their fingers crossed while watching these games.<br />But for what?<br />They look "who win and who loose...!"<br />These games are always "Win /Loose " games. Either "You win I loose or I win You loose".<br />What matters for the spectators is who wins..!<br />Very few enjoy the game.<br />This is what I played till 2009 April.<br /><br />I did not enjoy any activity which I did in my life till then. All did was out of unknowing pressure, attitude to win, selfishness and Jealous. I at last won the game. I achieved what I planned. But even after achieving, I was unhappy..<br />My selfishness and jealous ( I mistook it as aim and determination), kept on creeping to heights.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1d0MBB3VaCxcfvkosoU8SLvI-Pnr3KYtuAzGqqMnQwMQYk7OAV-SHzFLFfNv48ZoGfEIP_Fs78qshyphenhyphenxJ7AzzdyivmYbyvbw0IAK4tzSHnfJh0prCxWX0IXcuQkOzCNZ1PADzyw3XUkPdc/s1600-h/need+theory.png"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 319px; height: 220px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1d0MBB3VaCxcfvkosoU8SLvI-Pnr3KYtuAzGqqMnQwMQYk7OAV-SHzFLFfNv48ZoGfEIP_Fs78qshyphenhyphenxJ7AzzdyivmYbyvbw0IAK4tzSHnfJh0prCxWX0IXcuQkOzCNZ1PADzyw3XUkPdc/s400/need+theory.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5360901631147132002" border="0" /></a>I substantiated <span style="color: rgb(255, 102, 0);">Mas low's Need theory.</span><br />My needs kept increasing..After getting at Esteem needs, I started to value my relationships, friendships and even my love <span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">lesser than</span> those Esteem needs. I started to investigate about my change in behavior. At last, I found that the drive behind me was to get "<span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 51, 204);">recognition</span>" from others. I did not do things out of <span style="color: rgb(0, 153, 0); font-style: italic;">passion</span>..But did out of the <span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">need(want) to get recognized</span>. So, obviously I did not enjoy or the <span style="color: rgb(102, 0, 0); font-style: italic;">fruits of my success were not tasteful</span>. Now I am happy that I have understood (assuming), the fact that I was more emotional in my life than being rational.<br />But I realized this at some point, (wondering how), and started to change the way I live. I did some work out of my assumed passion... I also tried to find out <span style="color: rgb(0, 102, 0); font-style: italic;">"what's my passion"..!!</span><br />But after riding the bike for 25 years through my life, I cannot identify my passion...<br />I was <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(51, 204, 0);">shameful</span> and cannot even say to any one that <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 0, 0);">"I don't have a passion.."</span> But at least I came to know that passion cannot take birth after 25 years.. It must have been tapped right at childhood itself. Now, I just sow the seeds for growing a false tree called "passion". But I never bothered for it because I always had a strong feeling that <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 102, 0);">this false tree will one day reap at least a false fruit, (will be useful for the humanity).</span><br /><br />But after April 2009, I started to play a different game.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVFjSdCM9em9F-Zo6Bf9alAb1M9YMFy_BOvQd8xdE4-TaFy0l_B6Jo5TJqjHnzEdNdHl2hgcA9TMygVQcJKpGK_zL4A-Bt_4rMHChbCqrPs9ytIl4WQR1VLXhqKor0d6xWCFTQGOXvH6bH/s1600-h/golf.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 158px; height: 194px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVFjSdCM9em9F-Zo6Bf9alAb1M9YMFy_BOvQd8xdE4-TaFy0l_B6Jo5TJqjHnzEdNdHl2hgcA9TMygVQcJKpGK_zL4A-Bt_4rMHChbCqrPs9ytIl4WQR1VLXhqKor0d6xWCFTQGOXvH6bH/s400/golf.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5360922237647310498" border="0" /></a>The game similar to <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 0, 0);">"Golf, Billiards, Swimming..etc"...</span><br />Wondering <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 102, 0);">what's the difference</span> and why I chose this particular kind of game?<br />any guesses..??<br />These games are also highly reputed and require high energy skills and stamina like football & cricket. But the main difference is:<br /><br />When a person swims in a race (remember, it is also a competition like football or cricket), he does not even take a moment to look at others. If so he may <span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0); font-style: italic;">waste a micro-second</span>, which leads the other swimmers to over take him. They recognize who came first only at the end of the race. On the other hand, we can say that they <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 0, 0);">compete with themselves</span>. <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgheNLnd5lJld28G1I236q_lOqarAsb_AdNZtj1kXbC9sbxMXpmtUEc2tmNPDFrK6wdBpcUi8nSgGfaS8znuLbawhllBDrGxGC7Jvb6m5_Bhof1QLmEmDggkQTptVDjpE71G-avDgTJm-jz/s1600-h/cricket.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 159px; height: 104px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgheNLnd5lJld28G1I236q_lOqarAsb_AdNZtj1kXbC9sbxMXpmtUEc2tmNPDFrK6wdBpcUi8nSgGfaS8znuLbawhllBDrGxGC7Jvb6m5_Bhof1QLmEmDggkQTptVDjpE71G-avDgTJm-jz/s400/cricket.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5360922043182726722" border="0" /></a><span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 51, 204);">They race against their own best times.. </span><br />The same can be applied for the <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(51, 102, 255);">Golfers</span>. They try to reach their<span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(102, 0, 204);"> best against their own best..</span><br /><br />The difference is the golfers or the swimmers play the game in parallel.<br />So it is always better to play the game of <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">golf instead of </span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNyMa0JDBhCi7m6D2wRehsXY0mRX5rRUcs0WFltrsY0C6qaMHhPc7SjvgNPpGJUKRcEGoeHTZuawG7-Q4kL4j9s6UPSGRuXpMVY17jxqgEmQHSlK5h17dnk9e9pRSw1KvovUjF2jmpdirx/s1600-h/cricket+win.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 149px; height: 106px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNyMa0JDBhCi7m6D2wRehsXY0mRX5rRUcs0WFltrsY0C6qaMHhPc7SjvgNPpGJUKRcEGoeHTZuawG7-Q4kL4j9s6UPSGRuXpMVY17jxqgEmQHSlK5h17dnk9e9pRSw1KvovUjF2jmpdirx/s400/cricket+win.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5360921950104192402" border="0" /></a><span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">cricket</span>..<span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">Swimming instead of football.. </span><br /><br />Comments Are Welcome...sriram balasubramanianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09220738251583694388noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8752163785207166985.post-52136509617321981362009-07-21T10:22:00.003+05:302009-07-21T10:35:18.594+05:30Does Water expands in a closed system?<h1 class="subject"><span style="font-size:100%;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">When I was answering some questions in engineering section of "Yahoo Answers", I just came across this wonderful question.. sounds simple and one can answer easily blindly..Even though I studied thermodynamics in my engineering and knowing this answer better, i cannot provide a reason..thus this question made me to break my head and scratch all my old books...this is the question....for any technical argument comments are welcome...!!!</span></span><br /></h1><h1 class="subject">Does hot water expand in a closed system?</h1> <div class="content"><span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0); font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">This is a question given to me by my thermodyamics professor. Will the liquid level eventually rise or drop?</span><br /><br /><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">my answer:</span><br /><br /><div class="content"><span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(204, 51, 204);"> </span>I am sure that you know what a boiler is..it is a pressure vessel used to produce steam.<br />now the boiler has water and burn fuel to produce steam. assume, you don consume the steam from the boiler. this is similar to your closed vessel. when you keep on heating it,<br />room temperature----water level is same<br />10 degree increase in temperature--- water expands..<br />20 degree more than room temperature---water expands<br />..<br />..<br />..<br />..<br />at 100 degree Celsius, water boils, steam is generated..but the steam is partially water & partially steam..called as wet steam...or thermodynamically it is called as "dryness fraction"...<br /><br />from now on , if the temperature is increased,<br />wet steam is continuously generated, thus increasing the pressure of steam ...so the formation of steam leads to drop in water level...<br />keep on heating...<br />the steam is produced....drop in water level....<br />so it is clear that water becomes wet steam and then becomes dry steam.<br />but there exists a point,(assuming the closed container is strong enough to withstand high pressures)...<br />called "critical point" at which the water becomes directly dry steam...<br />the pressure at this point is called as "critical pressure"<br />critical temperature is the temperature above which the water cannot be in liquid state...<br />for water---critical temperature---374.15 Celsius and critical pressure----221.2 bar...<br />thus the water level will drop and finally at this point there will be no water....<br /><br /><br />a great question.....you made me think a lot....<br />hope my answer is clear...<br />thanx<br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjC2uUNfRXfDofSFfVPtS2LXsOz5l3Utk1mBlOm0OXWgQwRzXyL2w7jzxuFhjJXB1AKOIkPF4ri7hTDHvf7WwJiVz6OO_FORGaMrzn6nXGh5PnoFcjsu_Z2-WUpLpnJCf-ME_KSEcquUMzY/s1600-h/SteamTemperatureEntropy.gif"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 396px; height: 385px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjC2uUNfRXfDofSFfVPtS2LXsOz5l3Utk1mBlOm0OXWgQwRzXyL2w7jzxuFhjJXB1AKOIkPF4ri7hTDHvf7WwJiVz6OO_FORGaMrzn6nXGh5PnoFcjsu_Z2-WUpLpnJCf-ME_KSEcquUMzY/s400/SteamTemperatureEntropy.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5360773792200624258" border="0" /></a></div> <abbr title="2009-07-19 21:22:56"></abbr>sriram balasubramanianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09220738251583694388noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8752163785207166985.post-68413803373626652402009-07-19T13:47:00.002+05:302009-07-19T13:50:25.607+05:30Harvard lead to Stanford...!<div>How our inner Ego sometimes misjudges a PERSON</div> <div><br /> A lady in a faded grey dress and her husband, dressed in a homespun suit<br />walked in timidly without an appointment into the <span style="border-bottom: 1px dashed rgb(0, 102, 204); cursor: pointer;" class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1247991469_0"></span>Harvard University<br />President's outer office. The secretary could tell in a moment that such<br />backwoods, country hicks had no business at <span class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1247991469_1">Harvard</span> and probably didn't<br />even deserve to be in Harvard.</div> <p><br />"We want to see the President "the man said softly.</p> <p><br />"He'll be busy all day "the secretary snapped.</p> <p><br />"We'll wait" the lady replied.</p> <p><br />For hours the secretary ignored them, hoping that the couple would finally<br />become discouraged and go away. They didn't and the secretary grew<br />frustrated and finally decided to disturb the president.</p> <p><br />"Maybe if you see them for a few minutes, they'll leave" she said to him.<br />The President, stern faced and with dignity, strutted toward the couple.</p> <p><br />The lady told him "We had a son who attended Harvard for one year. He loved<br />Harvard. He was happy here. But about a year ago, he was accidentally<br />killed. My husband and I would like to erect a memorial to him, somewhere<br />on campus."</p> <p><br />The president wasn't touched....He was shocked. "Madam" he said, gruffly,<br />“We can't put up a statue for every person who attended Harvard and died.<br />If we did, this place would look like a cemetery."</p> <p><br />"Oh, no" the lady explained quickly "We don't want to erect a statue. We<br />thought we would like to give a building to Harvard."</p> <p><br />The president rolled his eyes. He glanced at the gingham dress and homespun<br />suit, and then exclaimed, "A building! Do you have any earthly idea how<br />much a building costs? We have over seven and a half million dollars in the<br />physical buildings here at Harvard."</p> <p><br />For a moment the lady was silent. The president was pleased. Maybe he could<br />get rid of them now. The lady turned to her husband and said quietly, "Is<br />that all it costs to start a university? Why don't we just start our own?"</p> <p><br />Her husband nodded. The president's face wilted in confusion and<br />bewilderment. Am sure that after reading through part-1 of this series, you can now guess the answer..!! ....<br />Yes, you are right.! This is because, women life style is totally different from what men leads. A Women, <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 51, 204);">consumes 10% less life energy</span> than what a man consumes for the same work. Also generally, when we observe a woman, <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 102, 0);">she talks a lot, but in a calm fashion</span>. She may talk more number of words per minute, but if she controls that then she is under great stress. But a man, keeps digging within himself. He does not want to let out things as a woman does. Also to keep up the <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(153, 0, 0);">symbol of masculinity, they don't cry(at least in front of others).</span> This makes him to get depressed which leads to heart attacks. <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(102, 0, 204);">When compared to women, it is men who die of heart attack most of the time. </span>Also given a same job, there is a great difference in which both genders work to complete the job. This witnesses that women consumes less life energy than men does.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">A Mouse Has As Much Life Energy As An Elephant...!!!</span><br /></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.abc.net.au/reslib/200902/r343430_1565852.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 254px; height: 382px;" src="http://www.abc.net.au/reslib/200902/r343430_1565852.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>Size does not matter when it comes to creatures life energy. As the scientist say, which I quoted in the first part, <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 153, 0);">every organism has the same amount of life energy and they use life energy proportional to their body weight.</span><br />Small light weight animals have a <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 0, 0);">very active metabolism</span> evidenced by fast heart beat & high breathing rate. These animals use a lot of calories, so that they use up their allotted energy soon. After their alloted energy is consumed, the demand for energy for further activities are taken from the life energy of the various organs of these animals, which leads to <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 51, 204);">depletion of overall life energy</span> and thus aging and <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(153, 51, 0);">finally death which is earlier</span> than what it is prescribed to be..!!<br />Remember, all use same amount of life energy/gram of body weight. Every person has a unique metabolism and if it is perfect, the replenishment of life energy is also fast. <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 102, 0);">If metabolism in not proper, our life energy remains drained, thus causing tiredness and </span><span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 102, 0);">attracting all sort of disease.</span><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5543734/2/istockphoto_5543734-man-sick-in-bed.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 175px; height: 156px;" src="http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5543734/2/istockphoto_5543734-man-sick-in-bed.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a> Thus the secret is to lower the metabolic rate & there-by consumption of life energy, we age slower. Cricket ball...!My previous article on <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">golf ball and the reason for dimples</span> on it, made me to investigate more about the <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 51, 204);">aero-dynamics of the cricket ball</span>. Now lets understand the science behind the swing of the cricket ball..!<br /><br />As we all know, a cricket ball is made of either <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 102, 0);">2 pieces or 4 pieces</span>, stitched to form a<span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(153, 51, 0);"> seam</span>. The seam has <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 153, 51);">6 rows of stitches with 60 to 80 stitches each row.</span> This is called as the <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(102, 51, 255);">Primary seam</span>. In a 4 piece ball, each hemispheres are stitched together by an internal stitching. This forms the <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 102, 0);">secondary seam.</span><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 102, 0);">Flow Dynamics:</span><br /> Lets first understand the basic flow dynamics of a sphere. When a ball is flying through air, it forms a layer around the ball surface called<span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 102, 0);"> "The Boundary Layer"</span>. This layer cannot travel all over along with the ball. So it has to separate at a point where it is called as <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(153, 51, 0);">"Flow separation".</span> This flow separation determines the pressure. The early flow separation means more pressure and late separation means less pressure. <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 51, 204);">This difference in pressure makes the ball to swing...!</span><br /><span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 102, 0);">So it is clear that there must be a difference in pressure on either side of the ball to make it swing..!</span><br />Now lets see the <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 102, 102);">Boundary Layer more closely...!</span><br />The boundary layer has two states. One is <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 51, 204);">laminar flow and other is turbulent flow.</span> The laminar flow is smooth flow with out any disturbance or turbidity. When a cricket ball flies in air, if it does not has any deviation in the position of seam ,then both sides of the ball may have a laminar air flow pattern.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOF8uvWBf0WDBtd2OgXmznTFxpixIdn5_k5nGO70PArpYWhVu2sIUi5IrVGZDkJEeNW34zwpDOlQ45YwVWJfKySFNutUXl5DE_LSfvcX2P99UFYwP0yRj6UtZ_o6z6UDlekLQj2COktQb4/s1600-h/straight+swing.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 232px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOF8uvWBf0WDBtd2OgXmznTFxpixIdn5_k5nGO70PArpYWhVu2sIUi5IrVGZDkJEeNW34zwpDOlQ45YwVWJfKySFNutUXl5DE_LSfvcX2P99UFYwP0yRj6UtZ_o6z6UDlekLQj2COktQb4/s400/straight+swing.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5350008069283299650" border="0" /></a><br />Let us understand the swing of the cricket ball with the <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 102, 0);">seam position being straight...!</span><br />This kind of swing does not require expertise bowling skills but of course practice is essential. Observing the above picture, by positioning the seam straight, the ball being rough on one side and smooth on other side, with the average bowling speed <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 153, 0);">less than 70 miles per hour</span>, the ball starts to swing automatically. When we look at the figure, <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">the rough side creates turbulence</span> and thus<span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 102, 0);"> delays the flow separation</span>. This causes the pressure to reduce on the rough side. When looking at the smooth side, the laminar flow exists, and the flow separation point is seen early than the rough side. <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 51, 204);">This imparts more pressure on the smooth side. The <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(153, 51, 153);">rough side and the seam produces turbulence,</span> thus <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(102, 102, 204);">delaying the flow separation</span>, <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(51, 102, 255);"><span style="color: rgb(51, 204, 0);">causing lesser pressure</span>.</span> On the other side, the smooth surface, renders a <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 102, 0);">laminar flow, with out any disturbance.</span> This creates early flow separation and thus high pressure. So the ball is being pushed from high pressure to low pressure side, i.e , the ball swings away from the batsman, called <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 102, 0); font-weight: bold;">"OUT SWINGER"</span>. This happens because, at such high speeds, <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(153, 0, 0);">the laminar flow becomes turbulent before reaching the ball surface.</span> Thus when the flow hits the seam, the boundary layer becomes more turbulent, making the layer thick and cause early flow separation when compared to bottom side. Thus this again causes the pressure difference, which makes the ball to swing. But to be observed in depths, that the <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 51, 204);">swinging direction is opposite to the seam position...!</span> Thus it is called as reverse swing...!<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkEI32aLa3aEZ3ekZn00Z373VgQ1EKyCRn333VGkZYQ-6h_CJyhBAii4L1nSzHsTtuRzIMjYDA4P4nhJ_nHFb4AYaxc-6PxOMu54c6Jguw0KGpEQD1-zCu28BnP9_Dk84TvwPmoRXNvkQu/s1600-h/red+ball+swing.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 245px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkEI32aLa3aEZ3ekZn00Z373VgQ1EKyCRn333VGkZYQ-6h_CJyhBAii4L1nSzHsTtuRzIMjYDA4P4nhJ_nHFb4AYaxc-6PxOMu54c6Jguw0KGpEQD1-zCu28BnP9_Dk84TvwPmoRXNvkQu/s400/red+ball+swing.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5350022551143364322" border="0" /></a>Thus the science(aero-dynamics) behind the cricket ball is clear and appreciated. As a prize, for winning in an in-house quiz, I got a <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 102, 0);">pack of golf balls</span>. I opened the pack and saw three golf balls with SHELL'S logo embossed in it. This was the first time I have ever touched a golf ball with my hands and it looked very glossy. Even though I have watched numerous times in television, I have never thought of the <span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(204, 51, 204);">"dimples"</span> the golf ball has...! I play cricket and I thought "the cricket ball is smooth and well-rounded"," why not the golf ball?". This was the question eating my brain, till I got this explanation..<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(153, 0, 0);">"why the golf balls have dimples in it?"</span><br /><br />A ball moving through air, experiences two major forces. <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 102, 0);">Lift & Drag.</span><br />Now lets first understand the aerodynamic action of lift and drag on a ball of smooth sphere(without dimples).<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYx7RQZmSqgwlCEsBDwCP8r5LVRaSeXSAvSCrNaSkErLTs4i53OLxqKEgEOr3CV3diHsaF8W4iGtkjYIVfRDMvXx78flfTDgQJQOkVz4OdJrhRTrs9B4fVsb6AK5JeOd0Jd33aJdWXj4xB/s1600-h/Slide1.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 490px; height: 343px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYx7RQZmSqgwlCEsBDwCP8r5LVRaSeXSAvSCrNaSkErLTs4i53OLxqKEgEOr3CV3diHsaF8W4iGtkjYIVfRDMvXx78flfTDgQJQOkVz4OdJrhRTrs9B4fVsb6AK5JeOd0Jd33aJdWXj4xB/s400/Slide1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349772230962300354" border="0" /></a>The drag force has <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 153, 0);">two components</span>. One is the <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(51, 153, 153);">frictional drag, due to air resistance</span>. This is very less and negligible. The main drag is created by the <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 0, 0);">"Flow Separation"</span> behind the ball, and is called as <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 51, 204);">"Pressure drag" due to separation.</span><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3StXOsCixTo5fdgAzNQylWcenMZw-yfMQmWskV9HdnB5cEZUovMithSa4y7GeDDRMwF7TBKcar-sWb8hfBcMA4YgHWk6k_RHjLos0xGQBQ-H8wkVVhWvph2T2Id7kSf9RoWHQ-IfpXjfm/s1600-h/golf_01.gif"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 118px; height: 154px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3StXOsCixTo5fdgAzNQylWcenMZw-yfMQmWskV9HdnB5cEZUovMithSa4y7GeDDRMwF7TBKcar-sWb8hfBcMA4YgHWk6k_RHjLos0xGQBQ-H8wkVVhWvph2T2Id7kSf9RoWHQ-IfpXjfm/s400/golf_01.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349773639645801010" border="0" /></a><br /><br />The figure shown beside, shows the travel of golf ball in air, with <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 204, 0);">laminar flow. </span>Don't wonder what is laminar flow...! In simple terms, a laminar flow is one without turbulence, or the air flowing around the ball has a very smooth layer. There is <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">no disturbance or turbidity</span>. So the <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 153, 0);">flow separates easily and much earlier</span>. The surface of the ball sphere is so smooth that it does not cause any disturbance of air flowing around it. This tends to keep the air flow layers separated.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ6Y42JSxNgwieO1_OR36OkkQpDAG2Cfwih-5GWqPbiVmTIlqv6DAEqNqisbKwE5leJlQXASGKX24UlDoJWAqxz5Zd0i21Ona-wwsTbCw3Veti51O2uxYnWIsx388VPIKPENAGiexz_1Z_/s1600-h/golf_02.gif"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 120px; height: 142px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ6Y42JSxNgwieO1_OR36OkkQpDAG2Cfwih-5GWqPbiVmTIlqv6DAEqNqisbKwE5leJlQXASGKX24UlDoJWAqxz5Zd0i21Ona-wwsTbCw3Veti51O2uxYnWIsx388VPIKPENAGiexz_1Z_/s400/golf_02.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349775966709248210" border="0" /></a>The figure shown besides, investigates the travel of a golf ball with dimples on it. The dimples make <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 51, 204);">the air flow turbulent</span>. Each small unit of air collides with the dimples and encounters disturbance within them. This creates a <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(102, 51, 102);">turbulent flow around the golf ball</span>. This turbulence, <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 102, 0);">delays the flow separation</span>. Thus from the figure, due to delayed flow separation, the region behind the golf ball is different from the one above.<span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 102, 102);">The separation region is smaller compared to laminar flow.</span> This difference in flow separation delay, makes the golf ball with dimples <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 51, 204);">fly farther</span>. Thus the dimple design was adopted.<br /><br /><br />On further investigation, it seemed that the golf ball got its lift from the dimples.<br />As we all know, <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">The LIFT is the force which causes the ball to elevate from the ground level.</span> If the golf ball is given a proper spin, about the horizontal axis, then this makes the ball to rotate in counter-clockwise direction,<span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(51, 153, 153);"> making the air to go beneath the ball</span>. Thus air acts as a step making the ball to climb over it. This can be understood from the smoke forming a layer beneath the ball in the picture shown below.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjFH_sdZD5vO3QzEC0mYzI1rq4gxgIsrLNKUN9GUB3C9lJO9eQDdUpPH83H6M5uQ2I1fpjJPju2jiyoOKYccVIx-psQjhpa5UgI01R48xAUiYUaPZfz-5KKOKnR_M2V2Q1kZO4kvcUKgoI/s1600-h/golf+smoke+1.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 212px; height: 276px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjFH_sdZD5vO3QzEC0mYzI1rq4gxgIsrLNKUN9GUB3C9lJO9eQDdUpPH83H6M5uQ2I1fpjJPju2jiyoOKYccVIx-psQjhpa5UgI01R48xAUiYUaPZfz-5KKOKnR_M2V2Q1kZO4kvcUKgoI/s400/golf+smoke+1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349785800843335858" border="0" /></a><br />If the golf ball is hit with a spin around horizontal axis, such that the top of the ball coming towards the golfer, then it produces a lifting force. This is evident from picture, which shows the smoke goes beneath the ball, if the ball is hit in the direction of rotation as shown.<br /><br /> This type of spin is known as <span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 153, 0);">"Back Spin"</span>. In cricket, if a bowler spins the ball in this fashion, then it is called as top spin. This type of spin, increases the velocity on the top of the ball and decreases the velocity on the bottom part. Thus as per <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">Bernoulli 's principle</span>, as the velocity increases pressure decreases. Thus we can conclude that the pressure on top of the ball is lesser than when compared to bottom of the ball. This pressure difference causes a<span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 51, 204);"> slight lift of the ball</span>. This phenomenon is called as <span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(102, 102, 0);">"Magnus Effect"</span><span style="color: rgb(102, 102, 0);">.</span> This is also vital in swinging of the cricket ball.<br /><br />And after understanding the above concept by studying various materials for more than half a day, I want everybody to understand this easily in few minutes. Because if we take an event and connect it with your emotion, it burns in your memory and you can remember forever. The same thing happens for a man but not very often because frankly <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 51, 204);">" we don't care..!"</span>. The box is called <span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(0, 153, 0);">"nothing"</span> and has nothing in it.. But when a woman tells her problem to a man and if he tries to fix her problem then <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 102, 0);">she is gonna kill him...!</span><br />she <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 153, 0);">doesn't want your advice</span>, she <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 51, 204);">doesn't want your help</span> and just wants you to <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 153, 0);">"shut up and listen..!"</span><br /><br />So by understanding each others behavior, one can avoid unnecessary fights and mis-understandings. CAPTCHA...! Wondering what it is..!!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.mymail.com/images/sample_captcha.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 292px; height: 175px;" src="http://www.mymail.com/images/sample_captcha.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />Hey all...! I got puzzled & Irritated as every time I browse, every site asks me to <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">re-type a set of scrambled, crushed set of characters..!</span> Also that was the time I was thinking on, about my next article. So, I invested my time in finding about those set of scrambled characters..! I came to know those are <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">"CAPTCHA"</span>s. "Oops...what's this"?.<br /><br />A<span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"> "Captcha"</span>....what is that..!<br /> A captcha is a program which generates a simple test to identify humans from computers by comparing and grading the test results. The acronym for CAPTCHA is <span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);"> </span><b style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">"C</b><span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">ompletely </span><b style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">A</b><span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">utomated </span><b style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">P</b><span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">ublic </span><b style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">T</b><span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">uring test to tell </span><b style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">C</b><span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">omputers and </span><b style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">H</b><span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">umans </span><b style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">A</b><span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">part"</span>. The test procedure usually has a computer (a server), which prompts the user to answer the particular question. This result is generated and compared with in the computer ( server) itself, <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 102, 0);">ultimately identifying whether the user is a computer which generates auto message or a human</span>. The questions are so simple and carefully designed so that only humans can attend to it. Computers cannot respond to it. Sometimes humans themselves fail in the test.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://geekandpoke.typepad.com/geekandpoke/images/2008/04/23/captcha.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 215px; height: 177px;" src="http://geekandpoke.typepad.com/geekandpoke/images/2008/04/23/captcha.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; color: rgb(102, 0, 0);">So By this time am sure that you must be wondering what kind of questions are asked in test...!!</span><br /><br /> Nothing big. The computer server generates <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 51, 204);">a set of characters scrambled together, scratched, extended, highlighted, jumbled up with upper & lower case, usage of special characters and numbers,</span> which only humans can reproduce. The computers cannot recognise such characters and reproduce them. But most of the humans can reproduce which signifies it is not a bot.<br /> This is sometimes described as a <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(153, 0, 0);">"REVERSE-TURING TEST"</span><span style="color: rgb(153, 0, 0);">, </span>because in this test, the humans are the targets, administered by the computer(server).<br />so wondering what is a <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 0, 102);">"TURING TEST"..?</span> A turing test is conducted to prove the machine is as intelligent as humnas. The test is administered by humans, targeted at machines.<br /><br />Now lets undergo a "CAPTCHA"..test...<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.thetechherald.com/media/images/200835/CAPTCHA.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 348px; height: 232px;" src="http://www.thetechherald.com/media/images/200835/CAPTCHA.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>In the window shown beside, there are set of characters, which has to be reproduced and entered into the tab provided above it. Now when such a test is challenged to a computer, It cannot reproduce the characters and probably it cannot identify it as a test. But most of the humans reproduce them correct<br />and get recognized as humans. Recent development also has audio captcha's for those people who are partially visually impaired.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.gautamrao.net/wp-content/uploads/2006/07/captcha-painting-2-gautam-rao-copy.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 148px; height: 128px;" src="http://www.gautamrao.net/wp-content/uploads/2006/07/captcha-painting-2-gautam-rao-copy.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />So after knowing about Captcha's and the <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 102, 0);">CHALLENGE-RESPONSE</span> tests, now it is obvious that you will wonder why such a test is required...?<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.walyou.com/img/are-you-human-captcha-t-shirts-1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 217px; height: 192px;" src="http://www.walyou.com/img/are-you-human-captcha-t-shirts-1.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>captcha s are deployed at places where <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">automated softwares </span>degrade the quality of service of web mails like <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 51, 204);">google, gmail, yahoo, hotmail etc...</span><br />captcha s are also effective when deployed in <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 102, 0);">blogs, forums etc to avoid automatic postings...</span><br />as a witness recently <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">"orkut"</span> for even posting scraps have adopted captcha s.<br /><br />So now we all know about captcha s and now whenever & where ever we see them, you will remember this blog <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">http://krithscorner.blogspot.com </span>, where you got the information regarding the set of scrambled characters...!sriram balasubramanianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09220738251583694388noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8752163785207166985.post-58036289472129928122009-06-04T15:42:00.039+05:302009-06-21T20:26:12.674+05:30Wondering What are White streaks on the Sky...!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.wired.com/images_blogs/autopia/images/2009/02/12/contrails.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 161px; height: 136px;" src="http://www.wired.com/images_blogs/autopia/images/2009/02/12/contrails.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><br />On seeing the picture displayed beside, you may understand what the article is about..? But yes. Its true.<br />There are cases in history where airplanes crashed because of a bird(or flock of birds). There were many instances where bird hit the air plane which leads to crash resulting in loss of human life..!<br />Also Bird-Strike may also be called as <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 153, 0);">Bird-hit </span>or <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 153, 0);">BASH-Bird Aircraft Strike Hazard.</span><br /> A Bird-Strike usually happens during take-off & landing.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/10/JT8D_Engine_after_Bird_Strike.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 247px; height: 184px;" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/10/JT8D_Engine_after_Bird_Strike.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />The crash occurs mostly when birds hit the <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 102, 0);">wind screen</span> or when <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 102, 0);">ingested into the engines</span>. The resulting damage causes loss of human life & heavy financial loss for the air-line owners. When the birds get ingested into the engines, (which is usually a gas turbine) the blades of the turbine breaks away, (as the turbine blades rotate at very high speed to produce sufficient power), leading to fire and <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">engine failure</span>. The open places near airports attract the birds which migrate in flocks. Some countries even adopted <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(153, 51, 0);">"gassing"</span> in order to get rid of bird strike. But certain organizations where against "gassing" as it may affect the environment & create imbalance in the ecosystem.<br /> Not to forget, the size of the bird which strikes the plane also matters. Nothing may happen if a small sparrow hits a plane. A group of people who follow certain techniques and steps to avoid bird strikes. This could be an ever-challenging job for the humans who sit at the airport to avoid bird-strikes. That became his evolution from darkness and today he has lighted up everything & everywhere. The technology has advanced too much that comfort levels are concentrated more without getting satisfied on basic needs. So came the air-conditioner, which led to a <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">fire accident,</span> holding clutches not only on electricity bills, but now onto life too...!<br /> Yes, the incident happened in <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(51, 204, 0);">India</span>, Where the family members turned on the air-conditioner at night. The A/C gave off sparks which lighted up the bed and other items. Due to the smoke and lack of oxygen people started suffocating & before they realized about the fire which broke-out, it costed them a small girls life of one & half years old. Pathetic. There was nothing to blame on the family members except for their ignorance. But the question is even though witnessing repeated fire accidents, why the Government of India does not take initiative to prevent any such further incidences..?<span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"> Fire, a known culprit</span>, even though it is useful for us when it is under control. Why the society does not insist upon the Government for safety measures..?<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">Things which can be done...!</span><br /> Many of us must have witnessed fire alarm systems in many luxury hotels & hospitals. Why can't government adopt such measures for apartments and other houses.? I want to quote an incident which made me to keep my fingers crossed, happened in United Kingdom. Some of my friends rented a house in Glascow(U.K) to complete their higher studies. They have planned for self-cooking as they had plans to cook Indian food of their own taste. One fine day, when a guy lighted up a portable gas stove on the garden. He has left it to get warmed up as the temperature was too low. Unbelievably, Fire fighting authorities came in few minutes and warned them of fire in that house. These guys got puzzled up and checked the entire house. Nothing except the burning poratble gas stove. The fire authoritied warned and asked them to put it off and adviced them to use an induction stove or hot plate in open areas.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.gsystemsd.com/images/vid-len3.gif"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 253px; height: 175px;" src="http://www.gsystemsd.com/images/vid-len3.gif" alt="" border="0"></a><br /> I am not asking the Indian Government to monitor like the Britishers do. Atleast the minimum level of safety has to be taken care off..!<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 153, 0);">Options available:</span><br />1. providing a multi-purpose fire extinguisher for every house(instead of televisions)<br />2. Appointment of trained personnel to educate people to extinguish various types of fire.<br />3. Appointment of fire personnel for inspection of fire extinguishers & maintenance of such equipments<br />4. Fire-scanners installed to detect fire at various places.<br />5. Sand buckets at every common place.<br />6. Every public meeting spots like meeting halls, marriage halls, hotels, restaurents, hang-outs,<br /> cinema halls, hospitals etc..must have a well established fire plan.<br /><br /> Also The Government can <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">create job opportunities</span> for many youngsters by having the above safety system. The Government can take initiative to form an Ornganisation which takes care of maintenance of house-hold items at nominal payments. They can carry regualr checks on gas cylinders, gas stove, burners, flexible hose which connects gas cylinders & the stove, air-conditioners(even though they are manufactured by private concerns), electrical systems etc. If the repair involves major work, the Government officials can always make a remark and ask the people to take action if the repairs are going to cost more money.<br /> I believe by making such initiatives <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 153, 0);">"unemployment"</span> can be dealth with and safe & secure life of fellow people is guarenteed.!!!<br /> <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">This article is " in no way hurting/critising The Government or any particular person being part of The Democratic rule.."</span><br /> This article is an intiative by a responsible "Citizen", just to ensure People have safe living standards.!!!<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.sps-technical.com/images/cctv_security_centre.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 260px; height: 146px;" src="http://www.sps-technical.com/images/cctv_security_centre.jpg" alt="" border="0"></a><span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">the picture shows the work area where people monitor fire by CCTV's and other devices</span>..<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.indiamart.com/powergroup/pcat-gifs/products-small/cctv-survillance-systems_10606046.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 207px; height: 133px;" src="http://www.indiamart.com/powergroup/pcat-gifs/products-small/cctv-survillance-systems_10606046.jpg" alt="" border="0"></a><span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">remote monitoring devices and surveillance cameras.</span>sriram balasubramanianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09220738251583694388noreply@blogger.com0
